Durban has the largest population of surfers in the country. Peppered with surf shops and spots, it's an ideal city surfing locale. There are lots of spots, from mellow beach breaks to grindingly hollow reef and beach breaks. The nightlife hums. The beach culture is a powerful force along the promenade, with the bronzed surf crew hanging out at trendy hangouts bedecked in the latest, slick fashions. In terms of the surf, the Bluff, a large headland at the south end of the harbour, blocks off the swell from the beachfront. If a 6' south swell is running, then the spots along the southern Bluff will be firing but New Pier might only be 3' and South Beach, tucked on the inside, flat. Those spots in the southern corner of the beachfront - such as Vetchies Reef and Addingtons - are usually flat in southern swells, but work in Easterly swells. South swells refract around the bluff, and begin breaking only from South Beach, the waves getting bigger as you head north, past the Wedge, New Pier, North Pier, Bay Pier and Snake Park. When easterly cyclone swells pull through, the Durban basin fills up with swell, turning on spots like the Diary Bowl, a famously powerful sandbar wedge between North Pier and New Pier. Durban's climate is sub-tropical throughout the year with high humidity levels at certain times. Consistant surf up and down the coast all year round. http://www.coastingafrica.com/ http://surfingsouthafrica.co.za/ http://gardenroute.co.za http://claytonsurfboards.co.za http://safarisurfco.com http://baronsurfboards.co.za http://zigzag.co.za http://surfconditions.co.za http://wavescape.co.za (more) (less)

Tribute to Joost van der Westhuizen redone. And once again with the great tune ...
I had to redo this one. New video, new & better pics, this guy deserves quality. Tribute to Joost van der Westhuizen - 'From yeterday' Wha I had to redo this one. New video, new & better pics, this guy deserves quality. Tribute to Joost van der Westhuizen - 'From yeterday' What a great tune by 30 seconds to mars. Joost Van der Westhuizen remains one of the greatest players in the history of Blue Bulls & South African rugby. Van der Westhuizen only played for the Blue Bulls as a provincial team - he never played for any other team after making his first class debut in 1992. His blood is definitely blue! For the better part of his career, Van der Westhuizen enjoyed plenty of success with the Springboks, especially after the side won the 1995 World Cup. In that tournament's nail-biting final, he famously tackled All Black Jonah Lomu to prevent the giant wing from scoring a try. Van der Westhuizen also captained the Springbok Sevens team, played in Nick Mallett's Springbok team of 1998 and was at the helm of the Springbok team when they finished third at the 1999 World Cup. In 1998, standing in as captain for the injured Ruben Kruger, Van der Westhuizen led to the Blue Bulls to a memorable semi-final win over Natal and followed that up with the ultimate prize of winning the Currie Cup. In 2002, in his final year of Currie Cup rugby, Van der Westhuizen led a young Blue Bulls team under coach Heyneke Meyer into the final, winning that game 31-7 against the odds. Enjoy the cool tune - 'From Yesterday' by 30 seconds to mars.
