South African Defence Force: Border War Firefight
Rating: 0.0/5 (0 vote cast)
By the mid-1980s the SADF was modernised to the point where it was able to conduct both conventional and counterinsurgency operations. The footage depicts the quality of the Infantry in fire and movement as well as trench-clearing. Infantry tactics focused on aggression and personal initiative during the firefight. Note the weapon-handling of the conscripts, suggesting a high level of discipline, as well as confidence in the weapons themselves.
Given the relatively small size of the white population in South Africa, the military was nevertheless, much like the Rhodesians, quite loss-averse.
